Choosing baby names for a child is a big deal for parents and guardians, because that name could be part of the child’s identity for the rest of their lives. It can also be a big part of how someone first sees you.
You can get ideas for baby names from a lot of different places, like movies, TV, and music. This could be a name that became popular because of the show, or it could be something a little more unusual. But which names have had the most impact on us?
Here’s a look at some baby names that come from popular culture and how much their use has grown since they first came to our attention.
Jax (Sons of Anarchy): increase of 6,325%
Before 2008, the name Jax was rarely used for boys. Only 8 boys were named Jax that year. But the TV show Sons of Anarchy, with Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller, also came out that year. In 2017, 514 babies were given the name Jax. This was almost a decade later, and three years after it had ended.
Harper (the daughter of David and Victoria Beckham):, increase of 4,135%
We often get ideas from the choices of our favourite celebrities, and it looks like that’s what happened with the Beckhams’ daughter’s name, Harper.
In 2011, when the Beckhams had their only child, there were 48 Harpers born. In 2018, 2,033 girls were given the name Harper, which was 4,135% more than in 2011. Harper is still one of the most popular names for girls in the United States in 2020.
Reign (the son of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick): increase of 4,133%
Reign is another well-known baby name that comes right after Harper. The second son that Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick had in 2014 is named Reign. Reign sounds like a royal name, and in 2014, three boys were given this name. But by 2020, there were 127 babies with that name, which is a 4,133% rise.
