I am Jo, and I have reviewed many products over the years. As an ex-teacher (as well as a mum of 3 children), I am always on the lookout for quality toys that also have educational value. I was thrilled to receive the new Connetix Tiles 92-Piece Ball Run Pack and have been testing this with my 7 year old daughter (with a little help from her teenage brothers, who appeared to love the challenge of construction almost as much as she did!).

Review

The Connetix Tiles 92-Piece Ball Run Pack is a captivating and versatile building toy that stimulates creativity, problem-solving, and endless fun. This innovative set combines the magic of magnetic tiles with the excitement of a ball run, providing children with an engaging and educational play experience.

One of the standout features of the Connetix Tiles Ball Run Pack is its high-quality construction. The tiles are made from durable ABS plastic, ensuring longevity and resistance to wear and tear. The magnets embedded within the tiles are strong, allowing for secure connections and the creation of stable structures.

With 92 pieces in the set, children have a vast array of options to design and construct their ball runs. The set includes a variety of transparent tiles, curves, slides, and connectors, providing ample opportunities for creativity and building intricate ball run structures. The clear design of the tiles adds an extra element of excitement as children watch the colourful balls whiz through the pathways they create.

Assembly is, in theory, a breeze, thanks to the strong magnetic connections – however we did find it a little tricky and the children were frustrated when their constructions collapsed. Despite knowing that this is how children learn, this did cause issues, especially with my youngest who required support and encouragement to ‘carry on’! Children can easily experiment with different configurations, testing the laws of physics and discovering how changes in slope and angles affect the speed and trajectory of the balls. This hands-on experimentation promotes critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities in a playful and engaging manner.

The Connetix Tiles Ball Run Pack also encourages collaborative play and social interaction – in my experience, this was apparent across the ages, as it is rare that my 16 year old will engage in sustained ‘play’ with his younger sister! Children can work together to design complex ball runs, strategise, and problem-solve as a team. The open-ended nature of the set fosters imagination and allows for endless possibilities, ensuring that playtime is never dull or repetitive.

Safety is a top priority, and the Connetix Tiles Ball Run Pack meets strict safety standards. The tiles are free from BPA, phthalates, and other harmful substances, ensuring a safe play environment for children. This was a big tick in my eyes.

Pros
  • Well made
  • Educational – supports STEM
Cons
  • Hard to construct – frustrating for children
Would you recommend to other parents?

I have to admit that when we first opened this we did find it a little frustrating. However with practice, we got our head around it and managed to get it all to click more securely into place. I really would recommend this product – I am a teacher and my daughter has got so much from it – from a marble run to using the magnetic squares to make ‘fences’ for her animals!
