Think Chicken Katsu Curry and BBQ Pulled Pork are just for adults? Think again, thanks to an exciting new children’s food range from Sainsbury’s!
Suitable for little ones aged six months to 3+ years, the Little Ones offering consists of 50 tasty new dishes for developing baby, toddler and preschooler palettes. With a ‘vegetables first’ philosophy, every savoury dish from seven months onwards contains at least one of your child’s five-a-day. Created to help make weaning and food discovery simple and fun through age-appropriate flavours and textures, the Little Ones range is launching in response to research that shows a third of parents lack confidence in weaning and 29 per cent find weaning information confusing.
Other dishes that sound good enough for grown-ups include Lentil & Chickpea Dhal, Fish Pie, Pasta Bolognese, Butternut Squash Risotto and Cauliflower & Butternut Mac ‘N’ Cheese. The youngest Little Ones diners can enjoy organic, single-flavour vegetable pouches ranging from Parsnip to Sweet Potato or Carrot, progressing to more complex flavours and textures as they grow. Everything for the under-ones is organic, while products for those over 12 months are fortified with iron, which is often lacking in toddler diets – and which supports normal cognitive development.
The range has been developed over several years, in collaboration with registered nutritionist Fiona Wilcock. She said: “While babies have a natural preference for sweet flavours, it’s very important that they learn to eat and enjoy savoury foods from the outset. For this reason, there are many more savoury foods in the Little Ones range and we have no biscuits, sweet rice cakes, biscotti or cereal bars for babies under one year.”
According to Sainsbury’s Product Developer Charlotte Judd, the range is fit for royalty. She said: “The range is ideal for busy families with children such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, offering a great variety of tastes for all ages and a simple and flexible approach to weaning. We know how much the Cambridges enjoy their curry, so we are sure Charlotte and George will enjoy our Chicken Katsu Curry.”
Little Ones is available in store and online now, with 25 more items set to join the menu by August.
