Does childcare improve child development? This is a question that parents have asked for generations, Parents across the UK overwhelmingly recognise the value of formal childcare and early years education in boosting their child’s development. This, according to a new study surveying over 2,000 parents*.
“Improved child development” emerged as the top benefit parents attributed to childcare, with a resounding focus on communication and social skills. “56% of parents cited communication and social skills as the most significant gains their child has made,” the study revealed.
But the benefits extend far beyond academic development. Parents also highlighted increased confidence (46%), independence (35%), and creativity (34%) as significant positive changes. “Being able to work” was another crucial advantage for 42% of parents.
Dr. Amanda Gummer, a renowned child development and play psychologist, is a vocal supporter of the Childcare Choices campaign. She emphasises the positive impact of formal childcare on a child’s overall well-being: “Formal childcare supports the development of crucial social skills, preparing children for school and beyond, and helps parents achieve a better work-life balance.”
The call to action is clear: Parents are encouraged to visit the Childcare Choices website (www.childcarechoices.gov.uk) to discover the government childcare support they may be eligible for today, and plan for the future. Don’t miss the next application deadline – December 31st!
By using the resources available through Childcare Choices, families can not only access financial support, but also empower their children’s development and create a positive foundation for future success.
