Plastic bottle strollers are paving the way for a more sustainable future! At Parenting Expert, we’re constantly searching for eco-friendly brands that align with our values. We’ve noticed a growing trend of parents making conscious choices for the planet, all for the sake of their children and future generations.
German stroller brand, ABC Design, is at the forefront of the sustainability movement! They’re leading the pushchair market towards a greener future by pioneering eco-friendly materials made from recycled plastic bottles. Curious about their sustainable practices and how they impact stroller production, we sat down with ABC Design to ask them all about their initiatives.
Did you know?
- ABC Design has recycled almost 3.5m bottles to manufacture its sustainable strollers
- Up to 100 bottles are used in each stroller.
- Strollers by ABC Design are built with 45% recyclable materials.
- ABC Design’s aim is to make all pram models entirely sustainable
- The entire ABC Design line is vegan.
With a recycling rate of 67%, Germany is leading the globe in rubbish recycling. However, the UK comes in at number thirteen with a rate of 43%. So, it will come as no surprise that ABC Design, the top pram brand in Germany, has created innovative fabric alternatives for its products.
Standing out from the Crowd
The Pure Edition series makes up 45% of ABC Design’s strollers. It is made with top-notch German engineering and recyclable materials. High-quality textiles, in both cream and midnight from the unique Pure Edition range, are manufactured from PET bottles. One pram can require up to 1000 bottles!
At a pace of one PET bottle every 30 seconds, ABC Design has recycled over 3.5 million PET bottles into beautiful strollers so far. The company is committed to spreading its eco-credentials to the UK.
The fabrics are made from PET bottles that have been carefully cleaned, shredded, and melted down into granules. After that, the granules are converted into polyester fibres and they are spun into superior yarn. Following that, it is woven into the fabrics that form the gorgeous and eco-friendly designs found in ABC Design’s Pure Edition line.
We asked Fiona Suffield from ABC Design what makes ABC Design stand out against all the other pushchair brands available in the UK.
“At ABC Design, we are setting the standard for developing more sustainable fabrics for our products, without compromising on quality. Our customers deserve a pram that cares for their growing family whilst being kind to the planet. We pride ourselves on being industry leaders in sustainability, safety and style for over 30 years. We want families across the UK to fall in love with ABC Design and support the battle against plastic waste.”
New Designs
The brand-new “Black Dots” design, which is only available in the Samba-Set, adds to the company’s environmental credentials. It is produced from recycled PET bottles. These are specifically sourced from the sea and its coastline. This is where the most PET bottles end up in the world’s oceans. In support of the Philippines’ reforestation effort. ABC Design has committed to planting six trees on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. They are also removing six kg of rubbish from the ocean in partnership with the business Click A Tree.
Parenting Expert applauds ABC Design for championing sustainability! We constantly urge parents to thoroughly research nursery products before making a purchase. Are you considering a stroller made from recycled plastic bottles? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
