Haier I-Master Series 5 Kettle Review

How easy was the Haier I-Master Series 5 Kettle to set up?

It was very easy to set this kettle up – common sense told you to plug it in and off you go. However you will notice on the front a temperature control, a feature that most kettles do not have. We wondered whether this was completely necessary or merely a novelty and a gimmick to make this kettle stand out from it’s competitors.

Features

There are a couple of stand out features on the Haier kettle – namely the temperature control, removable limescale filter and an app. We tested both out as we wanted to discover whether they were really needed or whether the traditional kettle was all you required in a busy family kitchen.

Capacity

The Haier kettle has a capacity of 1.7l and this is indicated on the inside – perfect when adding boiling water to a recipe and negates the need for a measuring jug. You can boil from 250ml which meaning you can boil the amount you need rather than having to guess! We like that this is indicated on the inside. It may not be as easy to use as an outside gauge but we appreciated that this did not detract from the ‘look’ of the kettle.

Temperature Control

One of its standout features is the precise temperature control, offering eight settings ranging from 20°C to 100°C. This has a few benefits for parents. For example, this function allows you to prepare formula milk at the perfect temperature, ensuring your baby’s comfort and safety. This is a great feature for parents to adapt the temperature for preparing formula.

We also liked that we didn’t need to boil at 100℃ as this is not always necessary and therefore wastes electricity. We found this particularly useful for making fruit teas!

Another part of this feature is the ability to keep the water warm. We found this most beneficial when making drinks for various people who arrived at slightly different times.

Limescale Filter

This is certainly something we would look for in a kettle as water around our area is very hard. We think this is a necessary feature for any kettle so we were pleased to see it included.

Haier App

Although in theory we like the idea of apps, we really thought that this was an app for apps sake. It’s easy to download via the QR code on the base of the kettle. However we found the app to be an extra feature that we really didn’t need. After downloading and exploring the app, we never used it again! You can use it for other Haier products but for use just with the kettle we found it unnecessary.

Performance

There were features of the Haier kettle we really liked – like the ability to change the temperature and to keep the water warm. Our only niggle was that if you used the kettle just as it got to the boil then the water splashed out of the spout rather than pouring naturally. Obviously once we realised this, we gave the kettle 5 seconds after boiling before we used it. This is not something we had come across with other kettles so can only imaging that it is the angle of the spout. However, to put this is context, after we had done this a few times, we knew to leave it a few seconds before pouring and we loved the other features of this kettle!

Conclusion

We gave the Haier I-Master Series 5 Kettle 8 out of 10 stars – it has some nice features but the pouring when on the boil was an element we found annoying and could be potentially dangerous for the user,

Pros

  • large 1.7l capacity
  • ability to heat to various temperatures
  • keep warm facility

Cons

  • Pour not great if used at boiling point
  • App a little pointless
