Teething can be a traumatic time for your baby and, of course, for the parents. Sometimes it feels like nothing will console them. We have put together some useful tips to help a teething baby.
- Give your baby lots of cuddles and reassurance. Teething can be a difficult and uncomfortable process for babies.
- Offer a teething ring or other age-appropriate teething toy. These can help to ease some of the discomfort and provide something to chew on.
- Use a clean finger or a damp, cool flannel to massage your baby’s gums. This can help soothe the area and reduce discomfort.
- Give your baby a cold drink or frozen fruit or vegetable to gnaw on. This can help to soothe the gums, but make sure the pieces are small enough that your baby cannot choke on them.
- Try an over-the-counter teething gel or homeopathic remedy. These can help to numb the gums and provide temporary relief from pain. Always check with your GP or health visitor before giving your baby any medication.
- Make sure your baby is getting plenty of rest and drinking plenty of fluids. Teething can be tiring, and it is important to make sure your baby is getting enough sleep and water.
Remember that it does not last forever. However, when you are going through it we know that it feels like it does! Different babies react differently to the process. Some teeth appear to pop through with no discomfort, whereas for others, it can be a traumatic time for the entire family!
