With a market filled with lots of baby skincare essentials it’s difficult to make a mark. However, newbies Kit & Kin have done just that! An earth friendly brand offering babies the best and kindest nappies and skincare to protect their young skin. With everything new we wanted to find out more and who better to ask then Co-founder Emma Bunton (yes, Baby Spice)!
What inspired you to develop your own brand and what did you aim to do to make Kit & Kin stand out from the competition?
My son has always suffered with eczema and for a long time we struggled to find products that weren’t full of chemicals that would actually irritate his eczema further. I was becoming increasingly frustrated with all the products on the shelves that appeared to contain all a lot of unnecessary ingredients and artificial extras. I wanted to develop a brand like Kit & Kin for a long time, to provide families with a much more simple solution when shopping for them and their children: a range of safe, effective, affordable products that are made with natural, sustainable ingredients and materials that are healthy for you and better for the environment. These are real products for real families.
We absolutely LOVE the look of Kit & Kin already and can’t wait to get our hands on the products, but if you were to ask your little ones which product they like best, what would Beau and Tate say?
They love it all! They just love the smell of all the products. Both boys have suffered with eczema, particularly Tate – but since we’ve been using Kit & Kin their eczema has almost completely cleared up and now their skin is like silk. Tate particularly loves the bubble bath; I always put it in their baths, but he’s constantly adding more and more! He just adores the scent. Beau, my eldest, loves the body oil. We always cream the boys after every bath because of their previous skin troubles, and Beau just loves that moment to relax. Now he’ll actually just apply the oil himself because it’s so easy!
If you had to pick a favourite from the Kit & Kin range, what would it be and why? (We know you love them all, SORRY)!
I love the stretch mark oil – I use it all over my body every day! It’s so nourishing and for me it works in place of my usual moisturiser – that it helps with stretch marks is an added bonus!
We’d love to know your skincare essentials? Do you have any magical masks, creams or lifestyle must-haves?
I use a high factor SPF – particularly on my face – every day regardless of the weather. It’s one extra step, but it’s totally worth it in the long run!
What would be your ideal weekend of relaxation?
There’s nothing I love more than to be down on a great British beach, watching the kids paddling in the sea with some fish and chips in my hand! And then maybe staying in a nearby hotel with a spa… that really would be relaxing!
Did you always know you wanted to be a mum?
I’ve always been surrounded by lots of nieces and nephews and friends’ kids too, and for as long as I can remember I knew I wanted to be a mother. Something about having a big family with lots of babies and kids running around has always been so appealing to me.
If you had to pick one parenting rule to live by, what would it be?
In our house we really believe in finding the fun in everything – particularly in learning. My boys are starting to reach the age where things at school are getting a bit tougher, but we just always put emphasis on enjoying everything they do, in all areas of their lives. For us as parents, as long as the boys have always tried their best and had fun – well we can’t ask for much more!
What 3 products would you say are essentials for first time mums?
Number one has got to be the magic salve from Kit & Kin – it really is an absolute lifesaver for new mums! Motherhood can be so scary and overwhelming, it’s great to have a go-to product that is so gentle and natural on your baby’s skin. The Kit & Kin nappies are also an essential for new mums, since they bio-degrade in just 3-6 years unlike 500 years like traditional nappies. Us mums do throw out so many nappies each day, and if we can just make a little difference, it will have such a huge impact. And I’d always recommend something for babies to chew on once they start teething! We used to use Sophie the Giraffe teether with the boys.
