Parenting Expert’s verdict:
9 / 10
My name is Catherine, I am part of the Parenting Expert Reviews Team. Earlier this year I went on holiday to Kos with my husband and stayed at the Summer Village of Hippocrates Hotel in Mamari, Kos, Greece.
This holiday was just me and my husband, no children, we were looking for some tranquil, peace and quiet where we could relax and enjoy some quiet time.
This hotel did not disappoint…

Review
We were looking for a week ‘s holiday to totally relax, away from it all, and this hotel was perfect for just that.
We arrived quite late at the hotel and we were shown to our room quickly and efficiently. They’d even put us a sandwich and fruit together in case we were hungry from the journey.
Rooms
Our room was a Junior Suite with a Swim-up Shared Pool. It only cost us an extra £30 per person to have the swim-up pool, so this was an absolute no-brainer! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, it had pretty much everything we needed in it including a TV (not that we watched TV), a fridge and a safe. It was very modern with some nice little features and finishing touches. The bathroom was also large with a huge walk-in shower.
Outside on our terrace we had 2 traditional style sun loungers, a fixed sun parasol, 2 squishy, soft lounger beds and our swim-up shared pool. Our room was positioned on the edge of the hotel so we had a beautiful view over the fields.
It was fully air conditioned and the mattress, pillows and bedding were super comfy.
Restaurant
We were all inclusive which included buffet style food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What I liked about the restaurant was being able to sit outside under large flag canopies, or inside depending on your preference.
The food was very good to say it was buffet style. There were lots of selection to suit everyone’s taste. I am vegetarian and I never struggled for choice. The restaurant opening times were good too so you never felt like you were battling for a table, or to get to food, and trust me I’ve stayed in hotels like that before where people have nearly been fighting over fried eggs!
Pool Area
The main pool was quite small, however, the hotel is quite small so it never looked like people were struggling for sun loungers. Because there were several of the smaller swim-up rooms too, people obviously sat around those during the day. We didn’t use the main pool with us having our own pool.
There was a jacuzzi in the main pool area too with a sunken seating area and fire pit to the side.
Bar
The bar was quite basic but nice. There was a pool table and a darts board. Games were available to play on an evening. We were all inclusive but some of the drinks, mainly cocktails on the menu were an extra cost.
There wasn’t much in the way of entertainment in the evenings, but that didn’t bother us. We’ve done our fair share of evening entertainment and shows for the kids in previous years!
The bar was open all day and they served good coffee. There were a selection of sandwiches, pastries and biscuits available in an afternoon too when the restaurant was closed.
Wellness Centre
We both had a massage while we were there. The lady who did them was fabulous! We came out feeling very relaxed. This was an extra cost of course.
Reception & Shop
The reception area was clean and comfortable. Lots of sofas to lounge on and the staff were super helpful. Always happy to go above and beyond to make sure you had everything you needed.
There was a shop located to the front of the hotel which had a good variety of food, drinks and snacks as well as gifts and toiletries etc.
Location
This hotel was located in a very quiet area. Mamari was about 1KM walk away, this had a few bars, restaurants and shops.
The beach was about a 600m walk from the hotel. The beach was gorgeous! That typical Greek beach with super white sand and gorgeous clear blue water.
Around 3KM walk away was a larger tourist area which had many more shops, bars and restaurants. You could reach this by bus, a walk along the beach or along the road. There was a salt lake located near the hotel which at certain times of the year you can see flamingos.
Car and bike hire was just next to the hotel and horse riding was a short walk away. The bus stop was a short walk where you could get the bus to Kos Town.
The hotel took around 40 minutes to get to from the airport.
Overall we loved this holiday. It delivered exactly what we wanted – peace and quiet.
Pros
- Clean and comfortable
- Perfect, quiet environment
- Friendly staff
- Good food
- Nice wellness centre with a good massage
Cons
- The only thing which could have made this holiday a little better was if there were just a few more bars to wander to on an evening.
